Discovering Branson, Missouri: Our Unexpected Ozarks Obsession

Discovering Branson, Missouri: Our Unexpected Ozarks Obsession From the Marrying Your Passions Podcast - Episode 6 Recap

Five years ago, we'd never heard of Branson, Missouri. Today, it's one of our favorite destinations - proof that the best travel discoveries happen when you're willing to try something new.

Why We Keep Coming Back

Our timeshare in Hollister sits right on Table Rock Lake with stunning Ozark Mountain views. Those western-facing sunsets, with vibrant orange skies behind the mountains and reflecting on the water, keep us returning year after year.

When to Visit

We typically visit in July when the lake water is warm and comfortable, and all the outdoor activities are in full swing. Our first trip was in February 2021, which offered a quieter, more relaxed experience - perfect if you prefer fewer crowds and don't mind cooler weather. Summer is ideal for water sports enthusiasts, while winter lets you focus on shows, shopping, and indoor attractions.

Our Branson Must-Do's

Table Rock Lake Adventures

Sail Swim Tour at State Park Marina ($49.95/person) - A 90-minute experience on a giant catamaran with slides, water trampolines, kayaks, and paddleboards. All the fun of a boat day without any of the work.

Gliding Light Paddle Company - Guided paddleboard tours including sunset wine sessions and yoga on the water. The lake's warm summer temperatures make this incredibly comfortable. Stay tuned for our upcoming interview with owner Danielle, where she'll share insider tips on Branson's hidden gems!

Our Food Obsession: India Clay Oven

We eat here every single visit. Located in an unassuming strip mall, this Indian restaurant serves fresh, delicious food. Our order never changes: malai kofta, naan, and vegetable pakora. The owner often surprises us with complimentary desserts.

Other favorites:

Shopping & Entertainment

Tanger Outlet Mall has brand names and seasonal sales. Branson Landing offers an outdoor mall experience with fountain shows and restaurants. Downtown Branson provides that authentic small-town vibe.

For shows, Legends in Concert features excellent impersonators (the Elvis performer is Nathan's favorite). We also drive an hour to Alamo Drafthouse in Springfield for their incredible dine-in movie experience.

Tastings We Love

Smith Creek Moonshine offers free tastings of flavored moonshines - coffee, strawberry, and buttercream varieties. St. James Winery pairs wines with chocolate chips, and the Branson Cheese Company next door has exceptional cheese selections.

So Much More to Explore

Branson offers Silver Dollar City theme park, butterfly garden, the Titanic Museum, Retromania 80s Museum, mountain coasters, and even scuba diving in Table Rock Lake. There's literally something for everyone.

Our Travel Philosophy

Don't apologize for loving what you love. We return to the same restaurant every trip because it brings us joy. But we also stay open to new experiences - after all, that's how we discovered Branson in the first place.
